The Sin Of The Heart

As Bro. Anthony begins a new three week sermon series about Revival this morning, he remind us of the crisis of our daily struggle and helps us learn how to expose the sin in our hearts so we can deal with it.

It is always interesting to hear various Christians speak of the end times. We see situations like the one in Egypt, and we wonder are events of time beginning to spiral to a climax in which the Lord will ultimately return. It looks as if the Middle East is headed for a meltdown, but we also know that this area has been volatile for hundreds of years. The question we ask is, “Is this what Jesus was talking about during His Olivet Discourse in Matthew 24?”

The Disciples asked, “What will be the sign of your coming and the end of the age?” Jesus’ response was clearly not meant to give them any definite idea as to the timeline of His return. In fact, Jesus said that he Himself did not know the exact day or time. Only God the Father knows when Jesus will return. Jesus did say that there will be wars and rumors of wars. He mentioned natural disasters. He mentioned intense persecution and a time of great tribulation. Then he went on to say that the generation who experiences this time of extreme turmoil and suffering would not pass away until Jesus returned. The truth is that we can never know when Jesus will return. Jesus uses a parable to make His point. If a man knew what time a thief was coming in the night to steal from him, he would be alert and ready to ward off the crime. Likewise, if we knew when Jesus was returning to set all things right, we would live life as a sinner and then repent at the last minute.

The point is that we don’t know when He will return. We don’t know if all of this turmoil in the Middle East will crescendo to the great tribulation or wane only to build again. But Jesus’ message rings in our ears today. We must be ready! He could come at any minute! Jesus’ return is imminent. We must be diligent in our spiritual lives. We must live like He is coming back tonight.

We can draw a straight line from the emergence of evolutionary theory to the resurgence of atheism in our times. Never underestimate the power of a bad idea.

This is an article by Dr. Albert Mohler, President of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. It addresses the origins of current thought regarding atheism. Read the full article by clicking the link below, and check out his book, Atheism Remix.
