The Authority of Scripture

2 Timothy 3:16-17

For Bro. Anthony P. Langley’s first Sunday morning message as our new pastor, he chose to address the fact that the Bible, being the divinely inspired word of God, is truth. It does not only contain truth, it is entirely true and contains no errors or contradictions. He also related to us that the Bible is both a love letter from our beloved creator as well as our instruction manual while here on Earth.

A Prayer for Pastor and People

Philippians 1:9-11

After a couple of wonderful songs presented by our praise quartet, “In One Accord”, Bro. Jim Duffel gave his last message to the church family at FBC Lepanto. As his sermon, he chose to offer up a prayer for our new pastor, Bro. Anthony Langley as well as a prayer for the rest of us based on Paul’s prayer for the people of the church of Philippi. He described his feelings about leaving and expressed his love for Jesus and the people of our church. Bro. Langley then accepted Bro. Jim’s shepherd’s hook as a symbolic transfer of power. He then encouraged us and proceeded to bless Bro. Jim by sending him out as a missionary from FBC Lepanto to the world. We know that we have been blessed with two powerful men of Christ in these two pastors and we are excited to see what God is going to do in this new chapter of our church. May God bless you and your family Bro. Jim and may he keep you strong in your new ministries.

Last Words

2 Timothy 1:3-12

As has been stated in an earlier edition of our Godcast, Bro. Jim Duffel will cease being our interim Pastor beginning with the November 29th morning worship service. In what he referred to as essentially his last words to us, due to next Sunday being focused on transition to our new Pastor, Anthony P. Langley, Bro. Jim chose to deliver the same sermon he used when he was first in our pulpit in view of a call over nine years ago. The message is one which recalls Paul’s admonition to the church in his last message to stir up the fire within us, to straighten up our act and to stand up for what we believe in.

The Lord’s Supper

This was a special night as Bro. Jim, in what was probably his last opportunity to do so, led us in The Lord’s Supper. He explained that it is for saved believers in Christ only and then he extended an alter call for anyone who was lost. He also warned against taking of the supper without first being prepared and offered us an opportunity to cleanse ourselves of anything that might hinder our relationship with Jesus.

Calling and receiving a new pastor is a significant occasion in the life of a church and therefore deserves a lot of earnest, effective prayer, renewed commitment to God and submission to His authority. In response to our prayers, God has provided us with an exceptionally qualified shepherd by the name of Anthony P. Langley. We are blessed that in response to our pulpit search committee’s call and in obedience to God’s will, Brother Anthony has chosen to assume leadership of our congregation. He will assume his duties and deliver God’s word to us again on November 29th.

Langley Family

On October 11th, Bro. Anthony delivered his first sermon to the congregation of First Baptist of Lepanto. It was a message that warned us of the pitfalls of living to serve a religion instead of a relationship with Jesus. He alerted us to beware of hypocrisy and provided practical applications to streng- then our walk with God. Having obtained his Masters of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, his teaching is rooted in strict, conservative, Biblical theology.

Bro. Anthony, 37, is from Pascagoula, Mississippi and has been presiding at the First Baptist Church in Byhalia, MS for the last five and a half years. He and his wife, Mysty have four children. Zack, Cameron, Chase and Olivia. We welcome all of them to our church family and pray that God will bless them during this time of transition.
